We had to use the DJ-Kicks album art, but I was permitted to subtly hold true to the Culprit Sessions 2011 aesthetic – aged, neo-mid-century, dreamy mens rag.

I’m in love with my new extra serifed italic typeface. It plays extremely well with others:
I hate making logos. HATE. It’s a process and skill that is totally foreign to me. Which must say a lot for Spencer Lokken of Style Matters. He wanted his company’s logo updated (Style Matters is (an amazing) event DJ company) and came to me. And despite the fact that this was the longest duration I have ever spent on a job (by a looooooong shot), Spencer stuck by me and saw that we got the thing done to both of our likings. So after a helluva long wait – here is the new Style Matters logo!
The idea of using a laurel was a bit of a lark, but after many, many iterations with many different kinds of pens, brushes, and other tools…
We settled on this:

I’m excited to start work on a new season of Culprit Sessions. The past two years’ themes have both had dreamy, summery elements, and this year I plan to really take that up a notch.
Oh by the way – kicking off a summer Sunday afternoon/evening rooftop party in downtown LA with Steve Bug? Not bad!
